PANCHACHULI BA SE CAMP TREK
Since long wanted to do Panchachuli Base Camp Trek also known as Darma Valley Trek, but never got a chance since I mostly did most of my trekking in western Kumaon. Finally did it solo in June 2011. Here’s the day by day trave-log and pictures of my trek.

Reached Delhi at 11pm. Deposited the luggage in the cloakroom and went to visit Humayun’s Tomb and Safdarjung’s tomb, since I regularly visit Delhi but had missed out on seeing this two beautiful tombs. Came back in the evening and took Ranikhet Express train at 11pm
Reached Haldwani at 5am. Took sharing taxi for Pithoragarh. Changed the taxi from Pithoragarh for Dharchula. Reached Dharchula at 4pm. Met my regular porter Anand who is now almost like my big brother. He is from Khati Village near Pindari glacier and we had agreed to meet up directly at Dharchula. Checked into a hotel, had some dinner and went to sleep early.

Went at 10am to DC office for the permits. They told us both to do medical test at nearby government hospital. We always have a perception of government hospital as chaotic and full of lethargic people who just makes us run from one office to another for everything. Surprisingly here it was quite smooth and everybody was cooperative.
After carrying out ECG, Blood Pressure, Blood test and few other tests which I don’t even remember now, we went to the main incharge of the hospital for the final signature. Unfortunately he had gone somewhere and was not expected to come soon. We were getting late since we had to catch the sharing taxi for Sobla immediately. So we requested the junior doctor to help out. He was very helpful and signed the papers on behalf of the main doctor and said it’s ok nobody will know !!
We were sceptical about this procedure but anyways went to the DC office for the final permits. Unfortunately when we handed over the papers to him, we didn’t know that the guy seating besides him and chatting with him for the main doctor. On seeing the medical test report he was furious that who signed the papers on his behalf !! We frankly told him that we were in hurry and junior doctor just signed it since everything was normal. Luckily he cooled down and allowed the DC to give the permit. We gave a sigh of relief and immediately ran for the last sharing taxi that was just leaving for Sobla.
Road from Dharchula to Sobla , follows the same road that goes to Budhi and further to Mansarovar, but gets diverted from Tawaghat towards left and then enters the Darma Valley. Reached Sobla at 4pm and immediately started the to trek towards Dar. Checked in into a home stay for 100 Rs per night at Dar. Dinner was prepared by the home stay owner who had shop on the ground floor and home stay bed on the top. He had a very cute dog with whom we played for a while. We were really tired from the journey today and hence went to sleep early and had a sound sleep.
